Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month

We will be celebrating 11 years of CALM from March 1- March 31, 2022!
Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM) is a hands-on and engaging opportunity that encourages students from K to 12 in all 10 provinces to learn about and celebrate Canada’s incredible agriculture industry and food story. By connecting classrooms with farmers, agriculture specialists and #AgEducation resources. Buidling an awareness for students about the connection they have to local farmers and the agriculture and food sector is the overall goal for CALM.

This years theme for CALM is "Our Food, Our Story" and some of the activities we will be highlighting for the month of March include:

  • - Providing grade 3 teachers with the book "What's Growing Around Us?" along with activity sheets and resource kits
  • - Connecting farmers with classrooms to do read alouds
  • - Ag adventure days (more information below)
  • - Interactive Canadian farm tours featuring farms across the country
  • - Activities hosted in libraries across PEI
  • - & much much more!

AITC PEI invites Grade 3 classes across the Island to celebrate CALM with us by joining us at our Ag Adventure Days at the East Link Centre in Charlottetown (March 9 & 10) and the Credit Union Place in Summerside (March 3). This event will bring together industry and students to discuss and explore the Agriculture Industry on PEI. Industry will set up interactive and educational stops for students to visit with their class for a 10-minute stop. Students will spend a total of 2 hours on site, visiting 12-14 stations in total.
